Londonderry Rail Trail update

Our last two segments!

Phase 6 – the northern end – Harvey Rd. to Manchester City Line

Progress is slow, but we are moving forward every day.  There is a rigorous process that must be adhered to since we have a federal grant as the primary funding source for the construction of this phase.  Preliminary engineering plans have been completed, and we will have final engineering plans done by the end of this year (2023).  We are hoping to bid the project this winter, and possibly break ground on construction of this extension of the rail trail in 2024.

Phase 7 – the southern end – Rt 28/Seasons Lane to Derry Town Line

This is the final phase, and we are now making excellent progress.  The Town of Londonderry and Londonderry Trailways now have a “Use Agreement” in place with the landowner.  This is an important step as it now allows us to begin to improve is segment of abandoned corridor and clean it up as we have done in the past with other segments of the rail trail.  We will begin working over the winter on this segment of the trail by clearing brush and doing tree work in order to make the trail safer and more passable.  In the spring, we will be installing a new bridge over Beaver Brook.  After all this work is completed, we are hoping to begin cleaning up all the trash along the trail.  We will send out details on the clean-up when we have a more definite date as to when it will happen.  And finally, design and engineering plans for this segment should be completed and approved by next spring 2024.
