The Londonderry Rail Trail-Phase 6: The Airport Segment
The next phase of the Londonderry Rail Trail is the “Airport Segment” that runs from Harvey Rd along the airport runway fence up to the amazing Aviation Museum. The trail will then continue along the side of Navigator Rd to the Manchester town line. The roadside portion of this segment adds significant complexity to the planning, design, engineering and execution of this segment. This segment is being managed by The Town of Londonderry, Planning Dept. This project is funded by a federal grant that the Town was awarded, which is required to follow LPA processes which include holding multiple Public Meetings and Trail Abutter meetings. The engineering plans and reviews for this section are in progress as of early 2024. Phase 6 will take several years to complete.
The Londonderry Rail Trail-Phase 7: The Derry Connection
The final phase of the Rail Trail project, the connection to Derry, is dependent upon the state’s planning for I-93 exit 4a. The plan has now been settled and the Rail Trail route to Derry has been defined. In addition, the town has a use agreement in place for the trail to pass through private land. In fall 2023, Londonderry Trailways invested money to clear trees and trim branches to widen the path as part of the preparation for laying the trail. In 2024, we are still working to fundraise for this Phase, so please consider a donation to support the connection to Derry!
The Londonderry Rail is bigger than ever not only for Londonderry, but for our region. Take a walk on our Rail Trail, and you will see it being enjoyed as a safe and pristine greenway for all.
